What's your Brand's Story?

Posted by Scott Christopher on Thu, Oct 26, 2017 @ 16:10 PM

Good marketers tell good stories - concise, compelling, and engaging stories. They have done the hard work of distilling down their mission and value proposition into a simple story that can be easily understood by prospects. When told well, the story engages customers on an emotional level (yes, even B2B brands) and eliminates all the guesswork for them in understanding "What's in it for me?" Strong brands also have alignment company-wide on this story. From the C-Suite to sales, from PR to HR - all are bought in. This belief company-wide doesn't just impact marketing and creative, but customer service, product packaging, operations and more. This is why we--strategists at a media-only agency--care about our clients' stories. Our media plans can either help enhance that story, or detract from it.

The Speed of Media

Posted by Drew Conklin on Thu, May 12, 2016 @ 12:05 PM

Holy May Batman! Is it really already May? I mean, we are halfway through May. It seems that the older we get, the quicker times flies. We can all remember when the school year seemed to last for years and then we got our first job, and Friday seemed to take forever to get here. Now the weeks seems to fly by as fast as the Japanese bullet train.

Good Media Idea: Rainvertising in Seattle

Posted by Scott Christopher on Fri, Aug 15, 2014 @ 09:08 AM

I realize that we often highlight outdoor in our monthly good media ideas, but there's a lot of room for innovation & creativity in this space. This month's idea is a fun one that really only works in the city that it's been done - Seattle. The idea is something that Media Post calls "Rainvertising," and was executed by agency Publicis Seattle. To promote a local music & arts festival Bumbershoot, the ad campaign called for the use of a rain-activated paint called NeverWet that only comes visible when wet. They painted the streets and sidewalks of the city with clever tags and promos related to the festival and rain. Watch below video for a full video of how they pulled this off.

Good Media Idea: Asics, a mobile treadmill and one fast dude

Posted by Scott Christopher on Tue, Nov 5, 2013 @ 14:11 PM

This week's Good Media Idea features a shoe brand, Asics, and their promotion of the NY Marathon last weekend. Their idea falls in the "Alternative Media" category for Media Life Magazine, and those are the types of media ideas we like. Here's the premise: A treadmill sponsored by Asics, is driven around New York City on a flatbed truck; it's preset to the record speed of an Olympian runner, Ryan Hall and folks on the street can strap in (there's a special harness hung overhead) and try to keep up to his 4:46/ mile pace. This is all to promote the NYC marathon. It's part event marketing, part PR-stunt, part creative out-of-home campaign, and ALL buzz worthy. We like it.

Good Media Idea: IBM's Smarter Cities OOH campaign

Posted by Scott Christopher on Mon, Jul 15, 2013 @ 11:07 AM

We've said it before, but we love ideas that take the message of a campaign, incorporate a traditional medium to create an advertisement that expresses that message in a fuller way. It's memorable, effective, and exponentially increases the reach of your advertising, thereby making your ad budget work harder.

Good Media Idea: Corona, a billboard and the moon

Posted by Scott Christopher on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 @ 10:06 AM

Here at McCulloch+Company, we live for media ideas that are creative, buzz-worthy, and just wonky enough to work. This week’s Good Media Idea (just in time for summer) is off the charts in the creative department - but it’s all around one simple idea - what if the moon became the lime in a huge Corona bottle? We especially love that the execution of the idea required hiring an astronomer.
